The Museum is housed in the fine C18th Riding School of the Fencible Cavalry raised to combat Napoleon's threatened invasion. The new Welcome to Rutland gallery traces the county's history from the fossil record to present-day through information panels. Objects from the collections illustrate this record in greater detail, with emphasis on social and domestic history. Agricultural tools and machinery form a large part of the collection.
Oakham Castle is an associated site about 200 metres away. More details for both sites are available on the 24 Hour Museum website.
