The Life of a Victorian Framework Knitter: Key Stage 1 and 2 cross-curricular resource boxes


In partnership with the Museums, Libraries and Archives East Midlands (MLA East Midlands) Ruddington Framework Knitters' Museum has developed two cross-curricular resource boxes for Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils. 

The boxes contain a handling collection of original and replica artefacts, clothing, images and documents for use by pupils in the classroom.  They are accompanied by a teachers' booklet, introducing a number of suggested cross-curricular activities and detailed information about the box contents.  Each has been designed to give pupils an insight into the lives of working Victorian families, their lifestyle and beliefs.  Using Ruddington Framework Knitters as a case study provides an ideal starting point for the discussion of broader issues and trends. 

While the key Stage 1 box focuses upon lifestyle, the Key Stage 2 box looks at the broad impact of industry on individuals and their physical surroundings:
