Two cross-curricular resource boxes developed with support from MLA East Midlands are now available for loan or use during site visits to Ruddington Framework Knitters' Museum.

The resource boxes contain a handling collection of original and replica artefacts, clothing, images and documents for use by pupils in the classroom. Both are accompanied by a teachers' booklet, introducing a number of suggested cross-curricular activities and detailed information about the box contents.

The boxes have been designed to give pupils an insight into the lives of working Victorian families, their lifestyle and beliefs. Using Ruddington Framework Knitters as a case study provides an ideal starting point for the discussion of broader issues and trends. While the Key Stage 1 box focuses upon lifestyle, the Key Stage 2 box looks at the broad impact of industry on individuals and their physical surroundings:

Box 1: Key Stage 1 History, Design & Technology, Science and PSHE
The domestic life of a framework knitter: Victorian toys and homes

Box 2: Key Stage 2 History, Geography, Literacy and Citizenship
Local study: Victorian life in Ruddington
