New Loans Box available to schools from September 2005

As part of the ‘Learn with Museums’ project MLA East Midlands has worked with The Queen’s Royal Lancers Regimental Museum to develop a Loans Box.

Sergeant Walton's personal effects, dog-tags and photograph. The Loans Box focuses on World War 2 and examines two aspects of the conflict; ‘Life of the Front Line Soldier’ and ‘Life on the Home Front’. Soldier’s equipment, newsletters, photographs and documents and the personal effects of Sergeant Walton provide an insight into the life and activities a soldier would have experienced at the front. The ‘Home Front’ material includes documents such as Iientity cards and posters as well as newsletters and Christmas cards that families would have received from their relatives fighting at the front.

The Queen’s Royal Lancers Loans Box has been designed to be a flexible resource that can complement the cross-curricular teaching of Key Stages 2 and 3 through History, Literacy and Citizenship. This handling resource can also be used in conjunction with the on-line resources available on the emsource website.

The Queen’s Royal Lancers Loans Box will be available to schools in the Melton Mowbray and Grantham areas from September 2005. Initially this resource will be free of charge for the Autumn Term. If you are interested in borrowing the World War 2 Loans Box please contact:
