Taken in 1884, this view of the Engine House at Papplewick Pumping Station shows the construction almost complete. You might notice that the front porch has not yet been constructed. It is remarkable that the buildings, landscaped groups and engineering virtually all survive intact to this day. The notable exception is the abscence of the elaborate cast iron finial that originally crowned the top of the chimney as shown here. it is beleived that this was removed in 1937, because it had corroded to a degree that it was no longer safe.
