Learning and Access

Services for Schools

The NCCL Galleries of Justice aims to encourage young people to Learn about the past, Act in the present and Change the future.

Pupils and students are given the opportunity to learn through their own experiences, to participate in activities and to reflect on what they have learnt. We encourage them to empathise with people from the past and today and to develop their understanding and awareness of the role of the citizen in society.

Our programmes for primary schools, secondary schools and colleges have been designed to fulfil curriculum requirements in History, Citizenship, Literacy or Numeracy and cater for KS2, KS3 and 4 as well as being appropriate for AS/AL Law, History, English, Psychology and Leisure and Tourism students.

Citizenship Learning

As the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law, our activities are particularly focused around Citizenship themes including Social and Moral responsibility, Community involvement and Legal literacy. We cover topics including crime, identity and belonging, human rights, the criminal justice system, rights and responsibilities, personal safety, protest, democracy and the right to vote.

History Learning

Learning about the past and its relationship with the present and the future is at the core of our programmes and we provide opportunities for young people to find out about life in Victorian Nottingham and Crime and Punishment through time. Pupils’ historical knowledge and understanding, and enquiry and interpretation skills are also developed through our activities.
