National Stone Centre
The National Stone Centre is based on a dramatic, 50-acre site near Matlock in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales.
The guided trail helps school groups to explore the fascinating story of the limestone rocks by looking at the fossil evidence for creatures that lived in a tropical sea 330 million years ago. Activities are available on site to tie in with National Curriculum requirements in many subject areas. An indoor exhibition tells the Story of Stone from its formation to uses in modern technology. We can also arrange a visit to observe a working quarry.
