This teaching and learning package has been designed to support the study of History at Key Stage 1 and 2.

It introduces, through a series of photographic images and written sources, the differences in the lifestyles of Victorian children from different levels of society.

A photograph of a group of children in a stream. Are they just playing or are they 'Mudlarks'? Some children were so poor they had to scavenge for items washed up in rivers and streams. This images shows the small boy who has been named 'The Mudlark'The images and documents included in this package form part of activities offered at The Museum of Lincolnshire Life based around the theme of Victorians. They provide opportunities to introduce pupils to aspects of life for Victorian children as pre-visit or post- visit follow up work.

The package aims to encourage historical research skills through visual literacy, as well as encouraging language skills through speaking and listening.
