Stamped with the company name Nichols and the number 3. The Nichols company was in production in the 1820’s in Birmingham. These leg irons have a ring in the centre of the chain to attach the prison to a chain gang. Leg irons were made illegal by the British Government in the mid 1980’s, it is illegal to manufacture and sell them but not to import them.
