Grantham has been home to its fair share of famous men and women – including Britain’s first policewoman, the first female Prime Minister and a scientist acknowledged as one of the greatest the world has ever known. (In case you didn’t know – that’s Edith Smith, Margaret Thatcher and Isaac Newton!)

Oil on canvas portrait of Isaac Newton painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller in 1721.Using a selection of images and artefacts on display at Grantham Museum, this classroom-based, cross-curricular project for Key Stage 1 and 2, looks at the lives of three famous Granthamians (people who live or have lived in Grantham). It supports the teaching of History and Art & Design with links to Citizenship, Literacy and ICT and contains a range of information, lesson ideas and resources in formats suitable for web-based, offline and IWB use.
